Post - Training Considerations: Beyond the Workout
The conclusion of a training session does not automatically signify an improvement in performance. Irrespective of the intended training focus:
Speed
Agility
Power
Strength
Hypertrophy
Endurance
The post - workout activities play a pivotal role in determining the extent of benefits derived.
Athletes and their parents frequently inform me about their intention to engage with another trainer in addition to the training they are undergoing with me. The underlying assumption appears to be that doubling the number of workouts will yield double the results. This is a widespread fallacy that subscribes to the "more is better" mantra.
Regrettably, coaches are also often ensnared by this misconception. They subject their athletes to intense, repetitive conditioning sessions, only to be perplexed when the athletes seem sluggish during game days. While hard work is undeniably essential, there exists an optimal approach. Merely experiencing soreness and fatigue does not equate to enhanced performance.
